Simon Meyer’s Second Battle: A 5-Year-Old Faces Cancer’s Return

Simon Meyer is only 5 years old, yet he has already endured a battle most could never imagine. He once beat cancer, ringing the bell that marks victory, and for a fleeting moment, his family dared to hope. But six months later, the disease returned, stronger than ever, overtaking his tiny body.

From 2½ until just before his fifth birthday, Simon fought B-ALL leukemia with every ounce of strength he had. Years of chemotherapy, endless hospital stays, countless pokes, and playgrounds replaced by hospital rooms—he faced it all with courage. In April, the moment his family had longed for finally arrived: Simon rang the bell, cancer-free.

Then, the unthinkable happened. The cancer came back, this time aggressively and everywhere. His bone marrow is completely overtaken, and doctors describe its return as “with a vengeance.”

Simon now faces a relentless treatment plan: a bone marrow transplant, six rounds of full-body radiation, continuous chemotherapy, and a two-month hospital stay in strict quarantine. By November, he was so weak he could barely stand, sit, or move without help.

Through it all, Simon still tries to be a kid. He fights, he smiles, and he clings to hope. Right now, hope is what he and his family need most—and it’s something we can help give. Every bit of support matters in this fight for his life.
