Jax’s Ongoing Battle in Intensive Care

Jax’s infection markers have taken a concerning turn, rising instead of falling. Because of this, his medical team moved quickly to conduct a full infection panel workup and made several major changes aimed at eliminating any possible sources contributing to the infection.

One of the most significant steps was placing a PICC line, which allowed doctors to safely remove the central line from his neck. His IV in the left hand had failed and was removed as well. In addition, both his chest tubes and urinary catheter were taken out. Each of these devices, while necessary at different stages, can also serve as potential infection sources, and the team is hopeful that removing them will help his body turn a corner.

Sedation management has also been a critical focus. When the paralytic medication was lifted earlier, standard narcotic medications were no longer effective in keeping Jax comfortable. As a result, the team transitioned him to Propofol. So far, this change appears to be working much better. The paralytic was fully discontinued, and thankfully, Jax has remained calmer than during previous attempts.

This calm is especially important. When Jax becomes distressed, it causes significant swings in his blood pressure and can trigger dangerous heart rhythm disturbances. Stability, both physically and emotionally, is essential for his recovery.

His family is asking for continued prayers that his blood gases remain stable, that his body stays calm and supported, and that the infection finally begins to resolve. They are also praying for peace for his little body and steady progress forward after days of uncertainty.

Jax’s journey is a powerful reminder of how fragile and complex recovery can be in critical care. Each adjustment, from removing lines to refining sedation, is made with the same goal: giving his body the best possible chance to heal.

Thank you to everyone who continues to pray, support, and stand with Jax and his family during this incredibly difficult time.
