In the early morning hours of December 20, 2025, a devastating fire tore through a mobile home on the 41000 block of Knight Drive in Murrieta, California. Fire crews from Murrieta Fire & Rescue responded at approximately 4:42 a.m., finding the residence, carport, vehicles, and nearby structures fully engulfed in flames.
By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had already spread rapidly, making it extremely dangerous to enter. Crews initially attempted a rescue search, but the building’s structural integrity deteriorated too quickly, forcing them to switch to a defensive firefighting strategy. It took about 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
side the home, two young sisters aged 11 and 12 were found deceased. Their names were later reported by local police and community supporters as Abby and Emma Keenan, daughters of Stacey Hales and Adam Keenan.
The fire also killed multiple household pets. Three other family members including the girls’ parents and another child were rushed to hospital with injuries. According to friends and a GoFundMe campaign organized for the family, the girls’ mother suffered severe injuries and reportedly lost her eyesight in the fire, and the father was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Their surviving sibling is being cared for by a relative.
Local officials and community members continue to investigate the cause of the fire, which remains under review by fire and police departments. In the wake of the tragedy, neighbors and supporters have shared condolences and raised tens of thousands of dollars to assist the grieving family with funeral costs, medical care, and rebuilding efforts.
