Authorities in Bexar County, Texas announced Tuesday that a body was discovered during the ongoing search for 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who went missing on Christmas Eve after leaving her San Antonio home early in the morning.
According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, the body was located in a field just a few hundred yards from her residence during a renewed search effort by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. Clothing found on the body matched descriptions of what Mendoza Olmos was believed to be wearing when she disappeared, but official identification by the medical examiner is still pending.
A firearm was also found near the scene, though authorities have not yet confirmed whether it is linked to the case. At this stage, investigators do not suspect foul play, and possibilities including self-harm are being considered. The exact cause and manner of death have not been released.
Mendoza Olmos was last seen on Dec. 24, captured on surveillance footage outside her home before disappearing. Her phone was left behind, which investigators noted as unusual. Law enforcement continues to await forensic confirmation and has urged anyone with information to come forward.
More details are expected as authorities release findings from the medical examiner.
