In a moment that made pageant history, 22-year-old Sadie Schiermeyer was crowned Miss Texas 2025  exactly 31 years after her mother, Arian Archer Orlando, first won the title in 1994. The incredible milestone makes them the first mother-daughter pair ever to hold the Miss Texas crown. What makes their story even more remarkable is how both achieved their victory on their second attempt a testament to persistence, growth, and determination.

Growing Up Backstage

Sadie admits she didn’t grow up under her mother’s pressure to follow in her footsteps instead, her inspiration came from a high school friend who won the Teen America crown. She shares how she spent much of her childhood backstage at pageants, soaking in the atmosphere, the glamour, and meeting the strong women who carried the title before her. For Orlando, her early pageant days were full of uncertainty she laughingly recalls feeling “clueless” and not knowing what she was doing during her first try; finishing 37th among 63 contestants.

Changing Pageant Culture

The pageant world has evolved dramatically over three decades. Orlando describes the 1990s Miss Texas pageant as more rigid with rules, chaperones, and an emphasis on classical categories like talent and interviews. Swimsuit and beauty-wear were part of the competition structure, but even then the scoring placed heavier weight on talent and interview. Today’s pageant landscape, as Sadie notes, has shifted: the swimsuit portion is gone, replaced by a “fitness” segment; there’s a stronger focus on community service, personal advocacy, mental health awareness and authenticity over perfection.

Sadie, for example, has spoken publicly about overcoming an eating disorder using her platform to advocate for wellness rather than purely aesthetic conformity. The modern pageant values inner strength, vulnerability, and social impact a far cry from the “perfect-image only” culture of decades ago.

Triumph Beyond Looks

For both mother and daughter, winning Miss Texas was never just about the crown or the limelight. The scholarship money helped fund education: Orlando used hers for two years of college, while Sadie is currently enrolled in a master’s program at a university in Dallas. Beyond money, the pageant offered life lessons confidence, public speaking, resilience, and the chance to shape a platform for social good. Their stories show that pageants can be gateways to education, self-improvement, and meaningful causes.

A Story of Self-Belief, Growth & Breaking Stereotypes

In a world quick to judge based on looks, Sadie and Arian’s journey sends a powerful message: pageantry isn’t just about beauty it’s about intelligence, heart, self-belief, and legacy. Their story transcends generations, proving that with persistence, authenticity, and purpose, a crown can be more than a title, it can be a launching pad for change. For every young woman thinking about chasing a dream, this mother-daughter duo stands as living proof that sometimes you don’t win on the first attempt but success tastes sweeter when you grow into it.
